Small railway lines with low traffic face a real challenge: they can’t increase the frequency in order to maintain a reasonable cost per passenger and distance. But in the meantime, customers are not satisfied and are leaving the service.

The railways are replaced by a BELWAY lane for vehicles on tire, with no more switch, no more signaling.
Autonomous shuttles will replace trains with much more frequency.
The BELWAY system will allow a significant increase of the public transport offer, thus increasing its use, and making the investments profitable for an optimized cost.

Rolling strips are created in asphalt, concrete, or recycled materials, possibly keeping the rails for the transport of goods at night.
To make the solution completely self-sufficient in renewable energy, the tracks can be equipped with photovoltaic panels and induction charging between the treads. Sections of tracks can also be covered with a roof equipped with photovoltaic panels.

Vehicles have their own capacity to change direction.
There are no more switches or signaling to manage or maintain.
Existing stations can be kept or modified and simplified in the form of stations like trams with disabled-people access.

What do local service railway lines represent for the territories?

In Europe, these lines represent an exceptional territorial network of more than thousands of kilometers.
These traffic lanes are optimized thanks to their very straight constructions, often more efficient than the neighboring roads.
These protected and 100% dedicated traffic lanes, without pedestrians or two wheels, are therefore very secure.
Repairing them can be very expensive but would not significantly increase traffic.
Removing these lines to replace them with cycle paths is probably not the best solution to improve transport in sparsely populated areas.

The need for mobility is growing, and the communication channels are not expandable.
We must keep those we have by improving their efficiency through autonomous vehicles.

Our solution is also more efficient than the bus, the usual solution which consists of replacing the train with a diesel bus that uses existing roads.

And tomorrow, when fully autonomous shuttles (level 5) exist, some of them will be able to leave the network and pick up the customer directly at their starting point, drive at the authorized speed on the open road, take the dedicated lanes and drive at good speed in total safety, then get out and go to the customer’s destination on the open road.
